Menu for Freaky Friday!
With Freakier Friday now in theaters, it is time to organize a full day menu organized around its prequel film Freaky Friday. Don't worry, I'll get to the sequel next week. I have to watch it first, haven't I?
Let's start with breakfast.
Now there's not much to go on in terms of breakfast items for the film, aside from one. When Tess ends up in Anna's body, she tells Harry to go have Anna's (her) cereal. We see the scene from Anna's and Tess's point of views as they slowly creep downstairs to find Harry and Grandpa sitting at the table having breakfast.
So, pick your favorite cereal to start your day with your choice of breakfast beverage, but knowing Tess she would ensure her kids were having healthy drinks like OJ or milk.
Lunch is relatively easy, if you remember this scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a05oFa3TyWc
Here, you can easily stop at McDonald's and grab yourself your favorite combo meal. True, you could do any fast food joint like Burger King or Arby's, but I am seeing the signature bright red fries carton that McDonald's is best known for. Though they might cover up the company's logo for copyright purposes, but I feel we could easily connect the dots here.
If you're feeling bold and have the time, you are more than welcome to make your own at home with your favorite burger patties, buns, condiments, fries, and drink. Or grill out in the backyard, if you have the room, and right now it is perfectly summer, unless you live in Australia or New Zealand.
For dessert or quick coffee break, hop on over to your local coffee shop and grab a drink as Anna did in Tess's body, running into Jake. She doesn't order any bakery item, but that shouldn't stop you from a small indulgent dessert.
Now, I would say dinner is also relatively easy - Chinese! Yes, The House of Chang! The place where all the crazy stuff began for this mother and daughter duo. You could order in, go out, or make your own homecooked meal.
Appetizer - Velvety chicken corn soup
This classic Chinese soup is actually quite easy to make. Here's a link to a recipe: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/13394/velvety-chicken-corn-soup/
Main Course - Fried rice, chicken & broccoli, and a spring roll
Let's keep it simple, shall we? Now, I don't have specific recipe currently, but I've cooked this many times before. The great thing about Fried Rice is that it is easy and very versatile. All you need for a fried rice is left over rice, vegetables, soy sauce, vegetables, oil (preferably sesame), and your option of protein. I personally would pick shrimp in this case because it is the fastest cooking protein that doesn't fall apart and its pinkness adds some much needed color to the dish. However, you're more than welcome to add what you wish - Beef, tofu, fish, chicken (keep in mind fish and tofu easily crumble and break apart, so you're not left with nice chunky pieces all the time.) Also, keep in mind that the rice is best if it is a day old, but kept in wrapped in the fridge, you don't want it rotten or hard.
As for chicken and broccoli and spring rolls, I don't have much experience in cooking, but you can find many recipes online and even Youtube videos that can help you out.
I'm not a drinker, but for the adults I've found this interesting tik-tok video on three Freaky (ier) Friday themed cocktails. Though I'm not sure about the crystal ball one. https://www.tiktok.com/@riatheshotqueen/video/7536254785649986838
Dessert - Ice cream
Earlier in the film, Harry, Anna's little brother, along with his friends were caught eating ice cream out of a tub by Tess's fiancée, Ryan. Like the McDonald's situation, the ice cream's brand in unclear. It could easily be Ben and Jerry's, Haagan-Daaz, or any other brand that serves their ice cream in the pints. So, here you can take your pick of a hard ice cream. You can have straight from the tub like Harry and his friends did, or make your own unique sundae out of it. Or, you could go out an enjoy the treat at your local ice cream parlor. The choice is yours.
This is my conceptualized menu idea for an entire day to celebrate the sequel's release in theater's. What might you change? Or have changed if you decided to do your own? Or if you decided to go through with mine, please share your thoughts. Also, share your ideas too. Did you make mocktails for the little ones or for those who don't drink?
